Aerothermal Engineer
Location: Kent, Washington
As part of a small team, you will support the development of aerothermodynamics models and databases for space launch and reentry vehicles using hand calculations, engineering methods, numerical methods, and experiments.
Responsibilities:
- Developing aerothermodynamic data including aeroheating and plume models for various launch and reentry vehicle configurations using engineering, CFD, and experimental methods
- Creation of databases for use in TPS design, trajectory/GN&C and structural loads analyses
- Supporting configuration development and trade studies
- Conducting wind tunnel and flights tests
- Developing system requirements, flowdown, and verification
Qualifications:
Required
- BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering and at least 5 years of professional experience
- Demonstrated ability to solve a variety of complex problems using analytical methods and hands-on experimental testing
- Experience using CFD tools (CFD++ and DPLR preferred) and engineering-level analysis tools
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team and provide technical guidance and insight
- U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or otherwise able to review all export-controlled technical information
Desired
- Strong knowledge of launch and space vehicles
- Familiarity with trajectory design and analysis of flight data
- Working knowledge of C/C++, FORTRAN, and Matlab/Simulink
- Working knowledge in the use of 3-D CAD tools (ProEngineer is preferred)
- Familiarity with knowledge capture systems, integrated engineering tools and rapid development processes
