Mechanical Systems Design Engineer


DESCRIPTION:  As part of a small team, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical systems of launch vehicles.  This hands-on position involves you in all aspects of the design, assembly, testing and flight operations of launch and aerospace vehicle mechanical systems. 
  • Participate in the entire design cycle of mechanical subsystems including conceptual design, system modeling, structural layout and analysis, integration, test and mission support
  • Design mechanical subsystems (e.g. landing gear, control surfaces, TVC, hydraulics) including development of 3D models, tube routing, kinematic modeling, finite element analysis, assembly and detail drawings, procurement, and integration support
  • Component and subsystem level testing including test planning and execution, data reduction and analysis
  • Specification and procurement of components and materials
  • Sub-contract management of suppliers including request for proposal, specification and statement of work
  • Project planning, schedule and cost estimation
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering
  • 5+ years of experience with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicles in the detail design of aerospace or equivalent type mechanical systems
  • Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3D CAD software
  • Working knowledge of aerospace materials and treatments
  • Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes and quality control relative to mechanical systems and machined components
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien 
  • Spacecraft Separation Systems design
  • Primary Flight Control mechanism design
  • Aerospace deployable devices design such as doors, landing gear or sensors
  • Creo (Pro-E) kinematic mechanism design
  • Experience in structural FEA using ANSYS, NASTRAN or similar tools.
