Manufacturing and Test

DESCRIPTION:  As part of a small team, you’ll machine and fabricate flight vehicle components.  With a specific knowledge of aerospace tolerance and materials, you’ll set up and operate mills, lathes and multi-axis machines.  With minimal to no supervision, you must produce accurate components enabling first article and low rate production success on tight tolerance, high value parts.
 
Responsibilities
  • Use design work orders, drawings and data to produce machined hardware
  • Setup and operate mills/lathes/multi-axis mills and multi-lathes/VTLs
  • Adjust feeds and speeds, as required
  • Cutter selection
  • Work to provided setup documentation
  • Communicate with programmers and designers
  • Design for Manufacturing feedback
  • Machine time estimates
  • Process improvement (both machining actual inputs and administrative process changes)
  • Maintain configuration control on files and job records
  • Safely work within an industrial environment
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
  • 10+ years of experience machining aerospace components
  • Experience with conventional and CNC mills and lathes
  • Excellent blue print reading skills including GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994
  • Proper cutter selection with appropriate materials
  • Ability to provide Design for Manufacturing feedback
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Stainless steel and aluminum experience 
  • Fluent in use of precision hand tools
  • Familiar with use of personal computers
  • Self-motivation and ability to prioritize projects to meet completion dates
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien
 
Desired
  • Knowledge of Fanuc, Haas, Mori-Seiki and Siemens controls
  • Multi-axis lathe, mill and VTL experience
  • Machining of nickel-based stainless steel alloys, copper and titanium
  • Tooling and fixture design
  • NC programming skills, preferably Mastercam X6
  • Conversational programming on the machine
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight critical hardware
  • CMM programming/operation
  • Outside processing knowledge (heat treat, plating, coating, EDM, grinding, etc.)
  • Experience machining tight tolerance, high value components
