Systems Engineering Manager


DESCRIPTION:  As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will focus on building the systems engineering processes and capability foundation for various spaceflight systems.  You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of developing a team of skilled systems engineers with judgment to apply and scale systems engineering processes to serve the company across a diverse set of products and programs. You will enthusiastically use your leadership and communication skills to create flexible methods and solutions.  Your customer focus will guide the team and your internal stakeholders toward identification of optimal process rigor for any given situation.  The SE&I team, like all of Blue Origin, thrives in an innovative, fast-paced, and often uncertain environment where we solve complicated and interesting problems in service of an envisioned future where millions of people are living and working in space.   • Develop a highly competent and energized team of systems engineers using effective recruiting, mentoring, coaching, and talent development
  • Manage resources across many programs, including forecasting, assignments, and continuous feedback from the programs
  • Define and continuously improve system engineering processes, and their value to internal and external customers, including:
    • Effective configuration management,
    • Requirements decomposition, analysis, traceability, and verification,
    • Development and maintenance of system analysis documentation,
    • Participation in gated design and production reviews,
    • Development and maturation of Concept of Operations documents
  • Maintain and evolve company-level Systems Engineering Process Manual
  • Develop strategies for improving operability, reliability, maintainability, and sustainability of designs and processes

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or other technical field
  • 10+ years system development/integration experience, preferably with aerospace hardware
  • Knowledge of current systems engineering and integration tools and methodologies
  • Keen desire to lead and develop a team
  • Demonstrated experience leading (formally or informally), and working collaboratively with, small teams on fast-paced projects
  • Ability to develop solutions with partially defined requirements and changing criteria
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Exhibit excellent judgment and be comfortable making high-quality and high-velocity decisions
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder)
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices such as trade studies, establishing system metrics, and functional requirements derivation
  • Experience across the product life cycle (pre-conceptual design through field support)
  • Experience and knowledge of system-level analysis tools including model-based engineering frameworks
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
  • Experience with CAD tools (e.g. Creo)
  • Mass properties estimation and sizing
  • Cost estimation and modeling
  • Operations modelling
  • Experience with proposal development
