Safety and Mission Assurance

DESCRIPTION: As part of a small team, you’ll take responsibility for all aspects of the environmental, health, and safety of Blue Origin’s people and facilities at the Kent site. You must have a passion for continuous improvement of a safety culture and building agile safety processes.  You must have a passion for solving complex problems and providing operable solutions and be capable of acting with minimal direction on your initiative. You will be responsible for helping to maintain a corporate culture that emphasizes accountability, discipline, and attention to detail at all levels.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal safety, health, and environmental regulations at the Kent facility
  • Prepare and submit reports to federal and state regulatory agencies as required
  • Direct activities of EHS staff at the Kent facility
  • Continually update and ensure compliance with the Blue Origin Health and Safety Manual
  • Create, update, and coordinate emergency response plans with state and local emergency planning committees
  • Indoctrinate new employees on our Safety Program
  • Manage hazardous waste activities for the Kent site
  • Manage the close call reporting process
  • Lead incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions
  • Develop, update, and deliver EHS training
  • Serve as site focal point for safety issues and concerns
  • Evaluate operations for continuous process improvement and implementation of preventive action measures
  • Supporting development of job hazard analyses
  • Provide subject matter expertise to engineering and production resources related to EHS
  • Perform periodic audits of our Safety Programs
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, or occupational safety
  • 5 years in operational aerospace roles 
  • 10 years in safety or environmental roles, including at least 3 years supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations
  • Knowledge of process safety management methods 
  • Knowledge of close call reporting practices and processes
  • Applicant must be a United States citizen or permanent resident alien
  • 15+ years total work 
  • Knowledge of Washington State safety and environmental regulations
  • Associate Safety Professional or Certified Safety Professional certification
  • HAZMAT and/or emergency response team experience
