Electrical Ground Support Equipment Development Engineer


DESCRIPTION:  As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will design, develop, fabricate, and activate all Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) required for an orbital launch vehicle for site processing, launch, and recovery of reusable flight components.  This is a hands-on position focused on EGSE development, fabrication and delivery to operations.  Major EGSE elements include stage level testing equipment (e.g. - power supplies, instrumentation, electrical test-sets), and integrated LV testing equipment (e.g. - hardware emulators, hardware in-the-loop testing), which interface with critical flight hardware to support launch vehicle processing. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

  • Develop system requirements, performing flow down, and verification
  • Manage design, analysis, and development of complex electrical ground support equipment, harnesses, and testing equipment
  • Support configuration development and trade studies
  • Create interface definition and control documents
  • Create drawings, specifications and other documentation
  • Plan and conduct EGSE activation and verification tests and review data
  • Communicate and enforce mission assurance principles throughout the organization
  • Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget and technical status
  • Coach, mentor and technically assist other engineers
  • Oversee EGSE system fabrication, procuring components and materials, and managing vendor/ subcontractor performance
  • Identify opportunities for safety improvements and operational cost savings

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering (electrical, software or avionics)
  • 10+ years’ experience with complex electrical systems design, operation, and maintenance
  • Experience working in small- to medium-sized teams integrating multiple subsystems to meet a top level system requirement
  • Recent EGSE development or management experience supporting mission critical operations
  • Strong safety mindset and experience, including hands-on experience planning and conducting hazardous or critical operations
  • Strong project management, budget management and team leadership skills
  • Travel – EGSE design activities and coordination will require a majority presence in Kent, WA, for approximately 12 months
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder)

  • Experience in sub-contract management of suppliers including request for proposal, specification and statement of work
  • Experience with launch vehicle, aircraft, or spacecraft manufacturing, integration, and testing
  • Project planning, schedule and cost estimation, with strong personnel management and mentoring skills
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, manufacturing fabrication and assembly processes, and quality control
