Summer Internships

In space related research

Careers at Blue Origin

June - August 2012

Summer Interns will participate in engineering design projects related to the development and construction of launch vehicles for human spaceflight. They will work directly with company engineers and program staff contributing to project goals in the fields of mechanical design, aerodynamics, rocket propulsion, flight controls, electronics, flight software, human safety and systems engineering.

Students focusing on careers in engineering, science and technology are invited to apply for this 10-week Summer program, which begins in early June and concludes in August. Specific program dates are established to best fit the academic schedules of selected interns. Interns are provided housing and a competitive compensation package including travel reimbursement.

Past Summer Intern projects have included:

  • Building and testing a working pressurization-control system for testing rocket engines
  • Planning and conducting a subsonic wind tunnel test, including the design and fabrication of models
  • Refining high-altitude wind-analysis techniques for use in trajectory and GN&C analysis
  • Designing and analyzing rocket engine components
  • Research, development, and hands-on testing of alternative pressurization systems for rocket launch vehicles
  • Developing software and building circuitry for a communications network
  • Research, development, and hands-on testing of seat designs and attenuation methods for reentry vehicles
  • Modeling and analysis of the ground effects of a vertical powered landing vehicle
  • Designing, developing, and testing a simulation model of a launch vehicle hydraulic system
  • Creating a telemetry visualization program to aid engineering support teams in vehicle monitoring tasks

Eligibility Requirements

You must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in science or engineering and have obtained a Junior or higher standing by June 2012. Students must be United States citizens, permanent residents, refugees, or asylees.
