Flight Mechanics Engineer
Location: Kent, Washington
As part of a small team, you will be responsible for integrating mathematical models of numerous launch vehicle subsystems (e.g. propulsion, actuators, structural dynamics, aerodynamics, etc) to perform design trades, performance studies, and detailed mission analyses.
Responsibilities:
- Performing 3-DOF and 6-DOF flight dynamics analysis and optimization to support vehicle development and licensing efforts.
- Supporting launch vehicle configuration development and trade studies.
- Supporting the development of guidance system requirements, approaches, and algorithms.
- Estimating vehicle nominal flight performance as well as off-nominal dispersions.
- Development of system requirements, flowdown, and verification
- Interface definition and control
- Developing flight test plans and operational procedures.
- Provide technical guidance in development of logistics, safety and abort mechanisms.
Qualifications:
Required
- Demonstrated knowledge of multidisciplinary design optimization techniques for launch vehicles.
- Extensive experience with trajectory simulation and optimization tools such as SORT, POST, or OTIS.
- Knowledge of C/C++ and FORTRAN.
- BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering and at least 10 years of experience in both atmospheric flight mechanics and astrodynamics.
- U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or otherwise able to review all export-controlled technical information.
Desired
- Familiarity with on-orbit operations for space vehicles, aerodynamic design principles and tools, and post-flight analysis of trajectory data.
- Familiarity with knowledge capture systems, integrated engineering tools and rapid development processes.
- Knowledge of Matlab / Simulink.
- Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes and quality control.
