Mechanical Systems Engineer
Location: Kent, Washington
As part of a small team, you will be responsible for the design, development, and test of space launch vehicle mechanical systems. This is a hands-on position that will involve you in all aspects of design, assembly, testing and flight operations.
Responsibilities:
- Design, development and test of ordnance, actuation systems, umbilicals, deployable devices, environmental control/pneumatic systems, crew seats, and abort systems.
- Support configuration development and trade studies
- Develop system requirements, perform flowdown, and verification
- Perform interface definition and control
- Create drawings, specifications and other documentation
- Oversee fabrication and assembly services; procure components and materials; manage vendor/subcontractor performance
- Test planning, conduct, and data review
- Estimate schedule and cost
- Identify opportunities for improvement in safety, schedule, performance and cost
Qualifications:
Required
- Demonstrated experience with two or more of the following areas: thermal/fluid systems (ECS, life support, pressurization, and oxygen generation), actuation systems (electromechanical, hydraulics, etc), escape systems, solids/ordnance/pyrotechnic devices, transparencies/windows, dynamic testing, mechanisms, personal protective equipment, seats, and power systems.
- Demonstrated experience on recently developed aircraft or launch vehicles, such as Atlas V, Delta-IV, Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), or F-22 Raptor.
- Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software.
- BS degree in engineering and at least 10 years of experience with aircraft, spacecraft, missiles, or launch vehicle mechanical systems.
- U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or otherwise able to review all export-controlled technical information.
Desired
- Experience with ProEngineer Wildfire2 or greater.
- Knowledge in the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools (ANSYS is preferred).
- Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes and quality control.
