Propulsion Design Engineer
Location: Kent, Washington
As part of a small team, you will develop the next generation of reusable propulsion systems. This is a hands-on position that will involve you in all aspects of design, assembly, testing and flight operations.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build and test launch vehicle propulsion systems including engine, tank and feed systems, reaction control systems (RCS), pressurization systems, pumps, and engine controls
- Development and control of interface control documents
- Providing technical guidance for integration and performing testing activities
- Create drawings, specifications and other documentation
- Oversee fabrication and assembly services; procure components and materials; manage vendor/subcontractor performance
- Estimate schedule and cost
- Identify opportunities for improvement in safety, schedule, performance and cost
Qualifications:
Required
- Demonstrated technical expertise in propulsion system design and analysis on liquid rocket engines or demonstrators, such as RS-68, RL-10, Integrated Powerhead (IPD), XRS-2200, RS-83, RS-84, Fastrac/MC-1, MB-XX, and TR-108.
- Proficiency in 3-D CAD programs (Pro/Engineer is preferred) and GD and T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard.
- Working knowledge of components such as valves, regulators, bellows and fittings.
- BS degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and at least 5 years of experience in the detail design of liquid rocket engines and components.
- U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or otherwise able to review all export-controlled technical information.
Desired
- Knowledge in the use of finite element analysis tools (ANSYS is preferred).
- Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes and quality control.
