Propulsion Development Engineer
Location: Kent, Washington
As part of a small team, you will develop the next generation of reusable propulsion systems. This is a hands-on position that will involve you in all aspects of design, assembly, testing and flight operations.
Responsibilities:
- Design, fabrication, integration and testing of rocket engines and components, including propellant tanks, feed systems, and RCS
- Test planning, conduct, and data review
- Oversee fabrication and assembly services; procure components and materials; manage vendor/subcontractor performance
- Providing technical guidance for assembly and integrated testing activities
- Assisting with schedule and cost estimation
- Identifying opportunities for safety improvements and cost savings
Qualifications:
Required
- Demonstrated technical expertise in propulsion system development on liquid rocket engines or demonstrators, such as RS-68, RL-10, Integrated Powerhead (IPD), XRS-2200, RS-83, RS-84, Fastrac/MC-1, MB-XX, and TR-108.
- Working knowledge of a variety of rocket propellants, including Hydrogen Peroxide, RP, and cryogenics.
- Working knowledge of components such as valves, regulators, bellows and fittings.
- BS degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and more than 5 years of experience in the design, development and testing of launch vehicle propulsion systems.
- U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or otherwise able to review all export-controlled technical information.
Desired
- 15 or more years experience in the design, development, and testing of launch vehicle propulsion systems.
- Knowledge in the use of 3-D CAD tools (ProEngineer is preferred) and finite element analysis tools (ANSYS is preferred).
- Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes and quality control.
