Senior Safety Engineer
Location: Kent, Washington
As part of a small team, you will be responsible for enhancing the safety culture at Blue Origin. We are looking for a proactive engineer that is able to insert himself or herself into all aspects of design, assembly, testing and flight operations. The Senior Safety Engineer is responsible for both flight safety and industrial safety.
Responsibilities:
- Applying detailed knowledge of aerospace systems to identify and help mitigate safety risk throughout the system life cycle.
- Participating in the design process; conducting independent analyses to evaluate system design, accident risk factors and hazardous sources; and recommending actions to prevent or correct safety hazards.
- Performing aerospace system hazard analyses, developing system inspection checklists, reviewing ground and range safety and orbital safety procedures, and conducting incident investigations.
- Developing reliability and maintainability design enhancements based on analytical and testing results.
- Proposing, developing, documenting, and maintaining safety engineering databases, tools and processes.
- Planning and administering the safety program and setting overall safety requirements.
- Ensuring compliance with all state, federal, and local regulatory authorities.
Qualifications:
Required
- Experience conducting system safety analysis, including FMEA/FMECA, fault tree analysis, hazard analysis, common cause/risk/mode analysis, and safety assessments.
- Familiarity with OSHA, MIL-STD-882, and FAA Advisory Circular 431.35-2.
- Demonstrated experience working with energetic systems and hazardous materials.
- BS degree in engineering, physical sciences, or mathematics and at least 5 years of safety engineering experience with space launch vehicles, missiles, aircraft, or spacecraft.
- U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or otherwise able to review all export-controlled technical information.
Desired
- Practical experience in identifying and preventing safety hazards.
- A history of meeting challenging performance objectives.
- Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes and quality control.
